About Alex Wilson
I am a commercial photographer specializing in corporate, portrait and event photography and a multimedia developer/designer specializing in video production, Flash design and XHTML and CSS development. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Marshall University and a master’s degree in Visual and Interactive Communications from the SI Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
After college, I joined the staff of the West Virginia Department of Commerce as a staff photographer where I remained for five years. While there I had the opportunity to photograph a wide variety of assignments throughout West Virginia including studio and location portraits, many types of events, studio illustrations and still lives. In 2007 I moved to Washington, D.C. to work on the photography desk at The Washington Times and do freelance work. Within a year I was promoted to multimedia editor where I primarily did Flash design and shot video. While shooting video for the Times I had footage of high level officials and world leaders that appeared, not only on our web channel but on major networks like NBC, ABC, FOX, and CNN. As a freelancer I had the opportunity to work for several public relations and issue groups in the Washington, D.C. area and frequently shot proceedings on Capitol Hill.
I have significant experience with Flash, XHTML and CSS design with Adobe Dreamweaver and Flash. While I was a multimedia editor/Flash designer for The Washington Times I was part of the team that received the Society of Professional Journalists’ Public Service Award, one of journalism’s highest honors, for a multimedia project I produced on a series focusing on the US Veterans Administration’s tests of an anti-smoking drug Chantix on several patients and the adverse reactions that occurred because of those tests.
I am currently a creative specialist with the Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) program in the P.I. Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University where I design Web sites, recruitment materials and produce photography and video.
